A New Vegetarian
Hi. I'm not Vegan (at least not yet), but I'm a Vegetarian for Ethics-related reasons. Basically, I realized that I was consuming animals unnecessarily every day when I really don't need to. So I stopped.
The last time I ate meat was around August 24, 2019.
Poppy has been very inspiring and encouraging in helping me keep up with this choice, as have a few other seeds in the fandom.
My rules for myself are that I don't consume meat (including fish), or food made from other dead animal parts (sorry, I don't know how else to say it.) So in addition to meat itself, I avoid parmesan cheese, bleu cheese, jello, broths/stocks or gravies made of meat juices or bones.
What makes my diet different from a Vegan diet? Well, Vegans avoid all products produced by animals, trying to "do no harm" to animals. I haven't gone that far (as a rule at least, although I do take Vegan options sometimes when it's convenient.)
I do currently eat dairy products - sour cream, cheese & eggs, milk (although I've been using some nut milks).
I also do use honey even though I know there are some bee-casualties in the process. (I am friends with local beekeepers and am aware of the process.)
I try to be aware of the source of sugars when I can. I would favor beet over cane sugar (because cane sugar is often filtered with bone char), and I do favor maple syrup over honey sometimes in cases where either would do.
If anyone is interested, I'd like to share more about what I've been doing, challenges and surprised I have faced while adapting to my new diet, and even simple recipes and ideas for how I eat on a typical day.
I hope this wasn't too boring!
